Becovic: A leading residential real estate company in Rogers Park, Chicago.
THE CHALLENGE
Becovic, the leading residential real estate company in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago, acquired a new apartment building with a 2,600 SF raw commercial street-level space requiring a complete transformation. They needed a dual-purpose environment serving as a base for leasing and brokerage staff and as a welcoming community hub. Key challenges included designing, building, furnishing, and decorating a blank, unfinished space, and creating an office that elevated their brand identity.
THE SOLUTION
Applied Ergonomics’ design team started by creating a space plan that accommodates two distinct business teams, the property management staff and the real estate agents. We also created a large, open area to meet with renters, potential tenants, and to host community events, raising their profile while improving the staff experience on a daily basis.
Over the course of the project, Applied Ergonomics worked closely with Becovic to create a functional yet aesthetically pleasing space that would serve their needs. The design integrated durable workstations, a conference room & private office, and flexible communal areas while ensuring the brand’s identity was reflected throughout.
By blending workspace efficiency with inviting public areas, we developed a holistic environment that supports leasing operations while fostering community engagement. Every furniture selection and layout decision was made with durability, ergonomics, and long-term value in mind.
THE RESULT
The final workspace successfully balances corporate functionality and community interaction. With ergonomic workstations, flexible event areas, and high-end finishes, the space is now a true reflection of Becovic’s commitment to its team and the neighborhood it serves.
THE APPROACH
Applied Ergonomics approached the project by carefully evaluating Becovic’s needs, ensuring the space was designed for longevity, flexibility, and usability. Key considerations included:
Designing a multi-functional area to accommodate tenant needs, real estate agent meetings, staff lunches, and public community events.
Incorporating workspace for two distinct staff teams and a manager’s office, ensuring comfort and productivity.
Creating a large conference room with modular glass wall construction.
From a design perspective, the goal was to create an office that felt both luxurious and edgy. Key design elements included a striking black-painted open ceiling, polished concrete floors thoughtfully combined with plush carpets and stylish rugs, contemporary lighting fixtures, elegant tiles, custom kitchen cabinetry, acoustic wall art, and a distinctive dropped-grid ceiling over the kitchen area. A stunning, custom-made 28’ x 5’ aerial photograph of the neighborhood adds a personalized touch, reinforcing Becovic’s deep connection to the community.
Enhancing ergonomics with height-adjustable desks, monitor arms, and high-end task seating.
